Is Revit LT Suite right for your architecture business?

Revit LT Suite

Everybody knows how much of a difference adopting a BIM workflow can make, but the obstacles to doing so can seem insurmountable. Enter Revit LT Suite.

Architecture is a competitive game, with firms and partners always on the lookout for an edge that will allow them to perform better and create more progressive and engaging designs. In today's architecture landscape, building information modelling (BIM) is undoubtedly one of the most important pieces of new technology.

Building with BIM

In a nutshell, BIM  is an innovative workflow process that makes collaboration easy and can be tailored to your business's unique requirements. The software behind this methodology allows for integration at every step of the construction process, providing detailed 3D models which can be accessed by everyone from architects through to contractors and managers. Essentially, it's a marriage of powerful design capabilities with collaboration and the sharing of information.

Everybody knows just how valuable BIM can be, but for a variety of reasons it is implemented far less often than it should be. This is somewhat mind-boggling, considering the immense power that the workflow can provide. Everybody should be using it, and the hurdles of training staff and integrating a new type of software are no excuses for being left behind.

Transitioning to BIM with Revit LT Suite

So, you've decided to switch to BIM. Where do you start? You certainly don't want to ditch everything you know in favour of a format you don't understand.

For architects and building designers, the shift to BIM doesn't have to be difficult; all you need is the right program. If you're looking for something to start your BIM journey with, Revit LT Suite will allow you to build on traditional 2D workflows while adding basic BIM functionality and a wealth of collaborative 3D functionality. As a stripped-back version of the full Autodesk Revit software, Revit LT is directly targeted towards architects, and cuts out the non-essential tools in favour of a more streamlined program. As an added bonus, it's also cheaper and can be flexibly scaled based on the number of desktops you need it to run on.

What really sets the Revit LT Suite apart though, is the fact that it includes AutoCAD LT with a bundled price at a fraction of the cost of buying the two programs separately. This means that firms don't have to sacrifice traditional 2D drafting and detailing tools and can integrate BIM into their operations at their own pace. Once you've got more experience with BIM under your belt, you can always upgrade to the full Revit software, but for starting out, the suite provides the perfect compromise.

The benefits of BIM for architects

For many architects, there's a bit of resistance to the idea of moving away from what's worked in the past. This stems from a lack of understanding of just how powerful the various facets of 3D modelling and collaboration with other parts of the construction process can be. Because Revit LT is fully compatible with other Revit products, the same designs can be shared with all other users of the platform.

Aside from the convenience and collaboration side of things, the artistry of Revit is pretty incredibly in its own right. The software allows architects to better realise their ideas, with photorealistic renderings and even virtual walkthroughs. This makes it much easier to clearly display how a design will appear in practice, and there's even an opportunity to create an emotional response not possible with 2D plans.

For example, Revit LT includes various sun and artificial light settings, which can be used to add incredible life and detail to an image. You might be thinking that creating these images will require enormously powerful computers, but because Revit LT renders in the cloud, you can still use the software to its full potential without having to spend.
