What is BIM?

BIM (Building Information Modelling) is an intelligent model-based process that provides insight to help you plan, design, construct, and manage buildings and infrastructure. BIM (Building Information Modelling) gets the right information to the right people at the right time, helping firms innovate and compete.
Successful implementation of BIM (Building Information Modelling) requires planned coordination of people, processes and technology to deliver specific outcomes, time and cost savings. The video below provides a brief introduction to BIM (Building Information Modelling):

Software is just one small element of a successful BIM implementation as shown below:

Linking BIM with Facilities Management

Thanks to its ability to manage the transition of data from design and construction stages, Redstack are delivering major benefits for developers, facilities managers and building owners by linking BIM with facilities management on major projects in the Asia Pacific region.

The problem with outdated facilities management

A major issue for facilities management stems from discrepancies that arise from inefficient data management practices.  Collecting all the data on your facility, storing, managing and keeping that data current is a big challenge.  By linking a 3D BIM model to a Facilities Management system, these processes can be streamlined, allowing facilities managers to accurately control and manage the costs associated with maintaining their facility.

How does BIM support facilities management?

A huge amount of data can be incorporated into a BIM model and integrated into facilities management software, like Archibus. Some of this data includes

  • The amount of space.
  • Room names, numbers, types and categories.
  • Division and department information.
  • Equipment and manufacturing information.
  • Other key descriptors.

With all this data in one centralised system, managers can access it anytime, anywhere. They are even able to view the geometric BIM model from the same application. This has a wide range of carry-over benefits.

Proven experience linking BIM with Facilities Management
Redstack have successfully linked BIM with Facilities Management to deliver the above benefits on a range of projects throughout Asia Pacific, including:

Scan to BIM Services

Redstack have extensive experience delivering point cloud, LiDAR and 3D scans for clients throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Learn more about our 3D Scan to BIM services.

Why use High Definition Scanning? (HDS)

3d scanner

Reduce or eliminate costly return site visits by capturing millions of unique data points. With accurate geo-referenced information HDS provides the ability to create as-builts and topographic surveys without return site visits, freeing you to do more work, more effectively.

Using High Definition 3D Scanning or LiDAR scanning, you can collect point cloud data on a structure’s current condition without significant disruption to the people who need to use the facility–offering the building owner a savings in worker down-time. Firms are using scanning data to create an as-built BIM model faster than when starting with an older CAD file or a printed document. Having true representation of the building as it stands today, rather than relying on construction documents, is more valuable because it depicts changes that have occurred since the documents were drafted. We deliver comprehensive solutions including all the software, hardware, support and services you need to realise the potential of scanning and point cloud technologies and gain a real competitive advantage.

High Definition Scanning systems can provide significant benefits and cost savings in many ways:

  • Lower cost as-built and topographic surveys
  • Reduction or elimination of return visits for re-surveying
  • Reduced facility downtime
  • Safer and unobtrusive data capture
  • Faster, more accurate results
  • Higher level-of-detail
  • Shorter project cycle times
  • Minimal disruption to facilities
  • Quickly develop as-built BIM models
  • Rapid acquisition of accurate data
  • Eliminate return visits on site for measurements
