Getting Started with Autodesk Inventor

By Harrison Gloyne, Redstack Intern

If you’re having any trouble using Autodesk Inventor, we have a whole list of support articles you can access from our blog.

When using any program for the first time, you may ask yourself “where do I start?” Well, you’re not the only one. When I started using Inventor, I had no idea where to begin. When you know what you’re doing, Inventor is relatively simple to use. However, it can be quite daunting to open Inventor for the first time and be confronted with so many options.

So, where do I start with Inventor?

The first thing to know about designing in Inventor, is that all the designs will start with parts. Parts can be single or multiple parts, and can vary in complexity. However simple or complex a part may be, this step needs to be completed to begin your design. By following the simple steps below, you will be able to create a new part in no time.

  1. Open Inventor
  2. Click on Part
  3. Start Designing

It’s just that simple!

Other options that can be seen here include:

  • Assembly – This option allows you to import multiple parts into the same space (i.e. Nut and Bolt).
  • Drawing – Creating an engineering drawing with measurements and description of parts and/or assemblies.
  • Presentation – Create a video that shows the entire object(s) and the assembly process.

By following these 3 simple steps you’ll be designing in Autodesk Inventor in no time.
