This is a fantastic enhancement to the Microsoft Office suite of products, especially for anyone that creates technical documentation or presentations using 3D models.
I noticed this 'Import 3D models' option pop up while I was creating a presentation in PowerPoint:
I imported FBX file and was quite impressed, PowerPoint allowed me to rotate the model, change the size, zoom in and out etc. The images below show some of the 3D models I was able to import:
The 'Insert 3D Model' option is also available in Word, Excel and I discovered I can now attach 3D Models into my emails with Outlook!
The Microsoft Office 'Insert 3D Model' feature supports fbx, obj, stl, 3mf, ply and glb files.
If you're a 3D modeler, no doubt you will have your own library of 3D models. If you're interested in getting started with 3D modelling, I'd recommend Fusion 360. It's an easy to learn, high quality 3D modelling tool and it's free for anyone earning under $100,000 USD per annum.
