The global market for commercial unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is set to experience huge growth over the next decade - offering numerous new opportunities for a range of industries.
This insight comes from the Global UAV Market 2015-2025 report, which was published recently by Strategic Defence Intelligence. According to the report, the market for these drones is set to enjoy a compound annual growth rate of 5.66 per cent over the aforementioned 10-year period.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the powerhouse continents of North America and Europe are tipped to be the biggest forces, seizing more than two-thirds (67 per cent) of the market.
Staying true to their origin, it appears drones used in a military context will be the most prevalent. The report revealed that UCAVs (unmanned combat aerial vehicles) will claim around a third (34 per cent) of the overall UAV market.
While drones may be most typically associated with their military applications, they have now extended well beyond this realm to be used in a wide range of everyday industries. Companies in the engineering, construction, architecture, mining and other industries are using UAVs to enhance their capabilities. For example, businesses commonly use UAVs to do an aerial survey of a large area of land in an easy and cost-effective manner.
And combined with other technology and solutions, such as CAD software or 3D printers, the results can be explored further - giving organisations unprecedented modelling and design functionality. UAVs are expanding the possibilities for countless organisations and industries today - it's time to consider what it can do for yours.
